A&a Manuscript No. Swing Excitation of Magnetic Elds in Trailing Spiral Galaxies?
نویسنده
چکیده
Swing-excited dynamo-induced magnetic elds in spiral galaxies are studied. We investigate the phenomenon of swing excitation with nonlinear 3D numerical simulations of the galactic dynamo. In a rst step we present a linear analysis in order to get inside in basic properties of the swing-excitation phenomenon in one and two-armed spiral galaxies. The model includes diierential rotation, axisymmetric and isotropic-eeect as well as uniform eddy diiusivity. The nonaxisymmetry is introduced via large-scale radial and azimuthal velocity components associated with a spiral density-wave perturbation. The solutions are a mixture of several magnetic eld modes; for a two-armed spiral the even modes (m = 0, 2, ...) are preferred. The contribution of higher magnetic eld modes to the solution is largest if the parametric resonance condition p 2 ! m ((p pattern speed, ! m magnetic drift rate) is fulllled. The eld geometry is strongly aaected. We also nd enlarged growth rates for the magnetic energy connected with the parametric resonance condition, but only if the amplitude of the perturbation exceeds 10 km s ?1 .

متن کاملFormation and Fragmentation of Gaseous Spurs in Spiral Galaxies
Intermediate-scale spurs are common in spiral galaxies, but perhaps most distinctively evident in a recent image showing a quasi-regular series of dust lanes projecting from the arms of M51 (Scoville & Rector 2001). We investigate, using time-dependent numerical MHD simulations, how such spurs could form (and subsequently fragment) from the interaction of a gaseous interstellar medium with a st...

3 S u m m a r y : We present simulations of the 3D nonlinear induction equation in order to investigate the temporal evolution of large-scale magnetic elds in spiral galaxies. Our model includes diierential rotation, ambipolar diiusion and, based on small-scale turbulence, eddy diiusivity and the tensorial-eeect with magnetic feedback. The nonax-isymmetric spiral pattern and { if considered { t...
متن کاملA&a Manuscript No. Three Dimensional Dynamos in Spiral Galaxies
Solutions of the 3D nonlinear induction equation for dynamos in spiral galaxies are presented in this paper. Our model includes diierential rotation, ambipolar diiusion and, based on small-scale turbulence, eddy diiu-sivity and the tensorial {eeect underlying magnetic feedback. The nonaxisymmetric radial-azimuthal spiral pattern and the vertical stratiication of the galaxy are represented in th...
متن کاملCircumnuclear Spiral Arms and Starburst Rings in Magnetized Barred Spiral Galaxies
The Seyfert galaxy NGC 1097 has an extended neutral hydrogen disk, a companion, a prominent bar and a luminous circumnuclear starburst “ring”. Magnetic fields as revealed by nonthermal radiocontinuum emissions correlate well with the optical barred spiral structure on large scales, have a gross enhancement overlapping with the optical/infrared “ring”, and show a trailing swirl around and within...
